Lioness season 3 gets a positive new update from series star Zoe Saldaña, who drops some new info about the show's future. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the Paramount+ spy thriller show features Saldaña as Joe, a CIA officer running a classified program that places female assets behind enemy lines. The show's debut season was a hit in 2023, and it is now in the midst of airing season 2. With season 2 proving to be both a critical and viewership hit, there is already interest in Lioness season 3.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Saldaña shares an update on the future of Lioness, revealing that she is contracted for "at least" three seasons. Though she doesn't directly address the possibility of season 4, the actor does stress how rewarding the experience has been for her thus far, painting a promising sign for the show's future. Check out Saldaña's comment below:
I wish it was the fact that I had room in my life [laughs]. I signed up for three seasons at least, and so you do have a sort of contractual obligation to fulfill, but Lioness isn’t that only. Lioness has been a journey that has given me the opportunity to collaborate with a different type of filmmaker. Taylor Sheridan is sort of like this cowboy that lives on his own off the grid, and that makes a lot of us curious. Either you get the cadence of his writing and the themes that he wants to always talk about, or you don’t.

What Saldaña's Update Means For Lioness Season 3
When Season 3 Could Release
Although Sheridan is perhaps the busiest man working in television as he oversees the various arms of the Yellowstone universe while regularly creating new shows like Tulsa King, there was only about a year gap between Lioness season 1's ending and season 2's premiere. This may have previously been the norm with TV shows, but, in the age of streaming, gaps of two years or longer have become far more common. With Saldaña's latest update, however, audiences can probably expect Lioness season 3 to arrive at some point in fall 2025.

Taylor Sheridan has been a great asset for Paramount, developing several original shows from Yellowstone to the new Law Men: Bass Reeves.
Saldaña doesn't provide any hints about where the story will go in season 3, but the introduction of Genesis Rodriguez's new Lioness operator, Josephina Carillo, in season 2 suggests that the next outing could follow a similar pattern. It's possible that season 3 will feature Joe embarking on an entirely new mission with yet another recruit. As Lioness season 2, episode 4, proves with the return of Laysla De Oliveira's Cruz Manuelos, however, Carillo could certainly return in season 3 and beyond.
In addition to writing all Lioness episodes and directing several in season 2, Sheridan also appears in the show as Cody Spears.

How The Paramount+ Show Could Further Expand

Lioness season 3 feels essentially guaranteed at this point, but whether season 4 happens will depend on whether audience interest is sustained in season 3. The trajectory thus far suggests that, not only will season 4 happen, but a spinoff show could also get the green light. The latter hasn't been confirmed or really floated as an option, but Sheridan has had great success expanding the world of Yellowstone with shows like 1883 and 1923, and he could certainly take the same approach with Lioness.
